What We're Releasing in the Free Tier
Starting today, anyone who signs up with our platform can use the following tools for free:
- Email Analyzer - Upload an .eml file and see what risks are present in the email.
- URL Detonation Engine - Add a URL and have Blue Lantern Security navigate to the website and assess what risks may be present to users.
- Static Malware Analyzer - Check if a file matches any patterns in Blue Lantern Security's malware signature repository.
The free tier lets users run 30 tool runs per day across any of these tools - enough for a casual user to get regular use out of our platform without feeling like they need to upgrade.
Our data policy remains the same with the free tier - we provide our analysis to our users without leveraging their data for any other purposes. Emails and files you upload are deleted within a day of receipt, while we retain the report for a week for the user's near-term reference.
The free tier does not include any of our active monitoring solutions, and does not allow for API usage. For those you'll want a seat.
Who This Is For
Anyone who gets a suspicious email or link every so often and wants a second opinion before clicking. If you're a small business owner checking a vendor's invoice, or an analyst who needs a quick answer in a pinch, the free tier should cover you. Why a Free Tier Instead of Free Credits?
Previously we leveraged a credit system to tie usage directly to cost for our users. As part of sign up, we gave all users a free allocation of credits that would eventually be used up, and then users would have to make a purchase to get more or subscribe to our seat system. We've come to understand that users, especially those working with small businesses, prefer cost that's predictable rather than tied to usage.
While we still believe there's merit in a usage based model, we think it was adding a layer of confusion to our product, and really users just wanted a free tier where they can lightly use our analysis in a pinch. With the free tier we allow our users to continuously use our product and build trust without risk of running out with light, long-term use.
What Happens to Credits?
Credits are gone entirely. We're no longer selling credit packs, and there's no credit balance to keep track of anymore. If you signed up before today and had free credits left over, you don't need to do anything: your account is on the free tier automatically, and seats are the only paid option going forward.
